The Meaning Behind Eyeglasses Size Numbers and How to Interpret Them

When shopping for eyeglasses, you will often see numbers on the inside of the frame legs. These numbers are the main data describing the glasses sizes. Like eye size, bridge width and temple length. All three dimensions are in millimeters (mm).

For example, these three numbers inside the frame: 54-20-140.

The first number 54 indicates the horizontal width of a single lens, most of this size is 44-62mm.

The second number 20 indicates the distance between the lenses, most of this size is 14-24mm.

The third number 140 represents the length of the temple. Which is the distance from the hinge of the frame to the end of the temple, generally is 120-150mm.

Typically, the numbers for glasses size and bridge width are separated by a small square. Besides, you may also see other letters or names on the frame which usually state the model and color of the frame.
